Coaching
2006 - The Kamloops Triathlon Club is pleased to support Ron Lyster with his participation in the National Coaching Certification Program.
Ron Lyster has lived in Kamloops since 1987, and has been a triathlete since 1988. He competes in all of the standard race distances, with his favourites being Sprint and Ironman. Ask him why he first took up the sport and he'll likely tell you "... because the handlebars looked cool!", but if you look a little closer you'll notice that he truly loves the multisport lifestyle. He is currently pursuing NCCP certification for Triathlon: Introduction to Competition, and hopes to be fully certified by the fall of 2006. His coaching philosophy centers around using simple, effective and time-efficient methods to achieve the desired results, all the while maintaining a balanced lifestyle. Ron is focusing his efforts on athlete development within the club, and is more than happy to assist you with your training and racing. He can be reached at 250-318-5894.

Kamloops Triathlon Club- Development of Coaching Support
Development of coaches within the Kamloops Triathlon Club will enable us to offer more to our members.
These coaches do not offer one-to-one coaching as part of their duties with the club, but do use this knowledge to provide support to members thorugh provision of clinics and through support and feedback during some workouts.
Do you have an interest in learning how to support your fellow athletes? Have you ever had the inclination to share your love for triathlon and other sports with others? Why not look at becoming a certified coach.
National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP)/CBET
Together with the Coaching Association of Canada, Triathlon Canada is pleased to offer the first in a series of new National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) courses employing Competency Based Education and Training (CBET). The new NCCP courses are replacing the old system of ‘Levels’ in all sports across Canada, and Triathlon is one of the first sports to offer certification under this new system. Put simply, the previous NCCP system of levels (ie. Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, etc.) certified coaches on the basis of written tests and completion of required hours and tasks. Certification in the new NCCP program requires demonstration of competencies in simulated (case study) and live (training camp) training environments. Furthermore, while the most experienced and expert coaches were those who had achieved the highest certification levels in the old NCCP system, the new NCCP system recognizes that expert coaches are required in all streams and contexts (Competition Introduction, Competition Development, Competition High Performance, Community and Instruction) and makes possible the opportunity to be an expert at any level. check out www.tribc.org for more info.
